ADASS XV - Second Announcement
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the opening of registration and abstract
submission for the 15th annual conference on Astronomical Data Analysis
Software and Systems <http://www.adass.org> (ADASS), to be held in
San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Madrid, Spain, during October 2-5, 2005.
The ADASS Conference Series provides a forum for scientists and
computer specialists concerned with algorithms, software, and
operating systems that focus on the acquisition, reduction, analysis,
storage and dissemination of astronomical data. The program includes
invited talks, contributed papers, display sessions, tutorials, and
computer demonstrations, as well as special interest ("Birds of a
Feather" or BOF) meetings. These activities aim to encourage
communication between software specialists, scientists, and users, and
also to stimulate further development of astronomical software and
systems. This year developers will have again the possibility of
organizing "Focus Demonstrations", a meeting room for demonstrating
their applications to a small, focused audience.
We encourage you to attend and participate in this exciting conference.
This year, key topics include:
o Information Systems
o Virtual Observatory
o Space-based science
o Optical Surveys
o Tools and Techniques
On Sunday October 2nd a 2.5 hours tutorial will be held on:
"A powerful public software environment for statistical analysis of
astronomical data". The tutorial is free of costs for ADASS
participants and will be presented by David R. Hunter, prepared in
collaboration with Eric D. Feigelson and G. Jogesh Babu
(all from the Center for Astrostatistics, Penn State University).
Depending on the number of BoF proposals received, we may schedule
one BoF session between the tutorial and the opening reception.
The ADASS2005 web site (http://www.adass.org/adass2005) will be
regularly updated during the next few weeks and will include, when
available, all information about the conference program, tutorial
workshop and BOF meetings, the invited speakers, and the participants.
It is now possible to register for the conference through the web site
and submit abstracts as well as booking a hotel room in the conference
centre.
A limited amount of funding is available for students and others who
require financial assistance to attend ADASS. The procedure for
applying for financial aid is also available on the conference web site.
Note: On Monday October 3rd, an annular eclipse of the Sun will be
visible from El Escorial. The Local Organizing Committee will provide
facilities to safely observe this unique event from this privileged
location.
