Mark your calendars for the 24th annual conference on Astronomical Data Analysis Software and Systems (ADASS,http://adass.org). The conference will be held from 5-9 October 2014 at the Westin Hotel in Calgary, Canada.

This annual conference, held in a different location each year, is a forum for scientists, developers and programmers working in areas related to algorithms, software and systems for the acquisition, reduction, analysis, and dissemination of astronomical data.

Calgary is Canada’s 4th largest metropolitan centre located in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. The University of Calgary is a major Canadian centre for radio astronomy in Canada and has close association with the National Research Council of Canada’s Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory in Penticton. Calgary is a focus for Canadian participation in the Square Kilometre Array project, and development of cyber infrastructure for data intensive radio astronomy en route to the SKA.

Themes for ADASS XXIV are:

- Big Data Challenges
- Large surveys
- Web services and APIs
- How we code today / Data Analysis / Pipelines
- meta-data management
- (2D & 3D) visualisation for astronomy
- File formats for astronomical data

The ADASS XXIV program will include invited talks, contributed papers, display sessions, tutorials, computer demonstrations, and special interest ("Birds of a Feather" or BoF) meetings. We plan to kick-off the meeting on Sunday (Oct 5) with a workshop on Cloud technology solutions and Openstack - the open source cloud computing platform. These activities aim to encourage communication between software specialists and scientists, and to stimulate further development of software and systems to meet the data science challenges of astronomy.

A call for registrations and abstracts as well as a roster of invited speakers will be distributed with the second announcement. General inquiries can be sent to adass-2014-loc at cybera.ca

This year again the International Virtual Observatory Alliance will be held adjacent to the ADASS meeting.

Regards,

Russ Taylor and Jeroen Stil (co-chairs) on behalf of the ADASS XXIV LOC.
Carlos Gabriel on behalf of the ADASS POC.
