Dear colleagues,

The ADASS Program Organizing Committee is pleased to announce the winner of the annual ADASS Prize for an Outstanding Contribution to Astronomical Software.

The 2023 recipient of the prize is Dr. Alberto Accomazzi and the ADS Team. The ADS is a digital library portal for researchers in astronomy and physics. The concept of ADS started in 1987. It has gone through many revisions over the years, from 40 papers as proof of concept in 1988 to more than 17 million records, 170M citations, and 700K articles in its full-text archive today; from scanned images of papers to online editions; from simple web user interface searches to sophisticated web UI and APIs. ADS now has agreements with almost all astronomical journals, who supply abstracts. Integrated in its collections, the ADS provides access and pointers to a wealth of external resources, including electronic articles available from publishers’ websites, astronomical object information, data catalogs and data hosted by external archives. The ADS currently have links to over 13.3 million records maintained by its collaborators.

This award is presented in recognition of the outstanding contribution of the ADS to the astronomical software community and the positive impact it has on many astronomy projects and scientists. The ADS is operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory under a NASA grant. Please see https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/about/ for more details.

The ADASS community was invited to submit nominations for this year's prize. The winner was selected by the Program Organizing Committee whose members voted on the received nominations. We wish to thank the community for their enthusiastic participation.

The award will be presented during the upcoming ADASS meeting<https://adass2023.lpl.arizona.edu/>, followed by a talk by Dr. Alberto Accomazzi, PI and program manager of the ADS.
